My Services

Being a Therapeutic massage therapist, my sessions with you are tailor made to suit your specific individual current requirements, so as your needs change, so does my treatment for you. As I see both male and female clients I pay careful attention with the use of draping, covering the parts of the body not being worked on, both for therapeutic and privacy reasons.

Because I am a results based therapist, I frequently see clients who require my services to help them find the freedom they need for their current problems, including sports orientated clients and once helped to their satisfaction, I may not see them again until I am further required.

At the other end of the spectrum, I also see people who have become long term clients who use my services to help with their own prolonged issues and suffering, and have become a part of their general overall health plan.

Using my nearly 20 years experience and varied massage techniques I will endeavour to help you whatever your requirements, and although some of these techniques can be painful I will always do my best to work within your comfort zone, getting feedback from you as to your tolerance levels. On the other hand you may also enjoy a relaxing massage designed to help your body and mind relax and benefit from some well earned time out.

Therapies

  • Swedish Remedial Massage - Using longitudinal strokes, effleurage and petrissage, tapping and kneading to relax and warm up the muscles and increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Also used extensively with relaxation massage.
  • Deep Tissue work - Used to help muscles and fascia, that are held in tension, to release.

  • Trigger-point therapy (TPs)- Using ischemic compression to reduce the pain caused by active TPs. These trigger points are, in most cases, the cause of referred pain, that is, pain felt in the wrist or arm but due to a TP in the shoulder (example only).

  • Myofascial release therapy - Achieved with the application of a series of gentle stretches applied anywhere on the body to help in the release of the fascia that surrounds every muscle group and fiber, very effective on long term holding patterns caused by injury and trauma, especially historic trauma.

  • Soft Tissue release therapy - A technique used by applying a hold on a muscle while moving it through its full range of motion, very effective for breaking down scar tissue and adhesion's within the muscle.
  • Sports Massage - Using all or some of the techniques already mentioned, working in harmony with an athlete's requirements for any upcoming events and to aid in bodily restoration following competitions.
  • Neuromuscular Therapy - With the body enduring stresses from trauma, improper body mechanics, poor posture as well as general wear and tear, a persons body will adapt to these changes and try to compensate, these changes cause more pain, reduced mobility and fatigue. With NMT I will identify and manipulate the soft tissue to help normalize its function and break the cycle that occurs with these changes. I'll also identify the root cause of these continual changes to the soft tissues and help to rectify any problems found. For this I use gliding, to identify areas, ischemic compression's to deal with problems, skin rolling and stretches, both passive and active, all used in conjunction with other methods mentioned above.

Whatever your needs I am here to help, please call and lets get you moving in the right direction.

Testimonials

Marion: I would recommend Mark Coombes massage to anyone that needs relief from injury and also sore, stiff muscles. He has helped me recover from a back injury and he was happy to work with other professionals to ensure a positive outcome. Mark has been my ‘go-to’ for over 5 years, working on chronic issues that I have had for many years. He is very experienced and intuitive, finding all the knots and sore spots and he is able to sustain good pressure throughout the massage. Regular massage enables me to have the flexibility I need for my job which involves a lot of bending.

Debbie: Over 15 years, Mark has helped me with both acute and chronic pain. I now visit him for effective care to prevent various symptoms of DPI (discomfort, pain or injury) brought about by office work. Mark is very knowledgeable, experienced and thorough. He takes a holistic view of health and well-being.

Allan: I was beginning to stiffen up because of running on hard surfaces in rubbish shoes as a young man, so I came to Mark I find Mark a very pleasant and intelligent man, and I would swear that he has magic hands.

I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone suffering from chronic aches and pains

Roger: I have been going to Mark Coombes Massage for over 10 years. I have valued Marks help and care in maintaining flexibility, fitness and well-being over that time and hope to continue this good work well into my eighties I thoroughly recommend him.

Athena: As a maturing woman who has led an active life I had been noticing more aches and pains, including from old injuries. Mark has been amazing. Not only is he knowledgeable about the musculature of the body and how it connects together, but he also knows how to walk the line between soft and pleasant but firm and releasing. It never hurts but it always feels useful! I was also impressed by his professional attitude and sensitivity to me as a client. I felt safe and respected from the start and recognised his experience and commitment to the art of massage. So now I don't ache so much any more.

Maddy & Laurence: Soft tissue work essential for recovery from debilitating painful injury.

We started working with Mark in perhaps 2002, not long after my husband sustained a severe whiplash injury with an excruciatingly painful aftermath. The recovery process took many years and Mark's soft tissue work was vital. At the same time I had my own problems with a Gradual Process Injury which at times painfully affected both arms. Though in fact the issues were throughout my body.

Over the years Mark's soft tissue work became (and remains) an essential component of our self care and body maintenance. Chiropractic care has also been essential and Feldenkrais utterly life changing, but we wouldn't have got our awesome results without Mark's contribution.

You can make all the spinal adjustments you like but if your muscles are stuck tight they're just going to keep pulling your body back into the same old twist. You need to help the soft tissue release to make the change.

Mark understands how to negotiate painful bodies towards ease, and knows exactly how much he can ask for before muscle will tighten rather than release. There's no blunt force, just a skillful 'conversation' with muscle fibre and your sensation, and really, your nervous system, which must make changes to allow muscles to learn a different way to be. Excessive pain is NOT required for gain and this is core to how Mark works.

My husband has fully recovered from his debilitating painful injury, and my own condition is a distant memory. It was our journey and we had to help ourselves through it, but it would have been much harder without Mark. He is trustworthy, appropriate and very experienced. We heartily recommend him.
